Schröger’s study details at least four quotations where our author cites a version no longer available (Heb 1:6; 10:30; 12:5; 13:5).41 Many of the A/B variations in Hebrews are purely stylistic and not substantive. And our author appears to have modified the text either to avoid ambiguity or for the sake of emphasis; he does not simply play fast and loose with the text. It would be very surprising if he used a version exactly like any of today’s extant copies. It may well be that his Vorlage goes
